FORT WORTH, Texas -
Two future Ute gymnasts struck gold at the 2016 Junior Olympic National Championships May 7-8 in Fort Worth, Texas. Incoming freshmen Kim Tessen of Orem, Utah, and Missy Reinstadtler of Brick, N.J., tied for first place on the uneven bars in the Senior E division. In addition, Tessen placed second in the all-around and Reinstadtler placed third on beam and seventh in the all-around.
"Kim and Missy performed exceptionally well against the nation's top Level 10 competition and showed what they will bring to our program this coming year," said Utah co-coach Tom Farden, who attended the meet along with assistant Meredith Paulicivic. "They are both extremely talented gymnasts and have to be considered two of the top recruits in the nation in the 2016 class."
Tesson and Reinstadtler will be joined at Utah in the fall by Olympic hopeful MyKayla Skinner of Gilbert, Ariz. Skinner, who won the artistic all-around at the 2016 World Cup in March, will participate in the USA Olympic Gymnastics Trials on July 8 and 10, 2016 in San Jose, Calif.
Tessen, a three-time J.O. National qualifier, now has nine top-10 J.O. finishes, including four at the 2015 J.O. Championships in the Senior A division. Reinstadtler, who qualified as a Senior International Elite in 2014 but is currently competing as a Level 10, was the 2013 J.O. national floor champion in the Junior B division.
Tessen and Reinstadtler both plan to enroll at the University of Utah this summer.
