SALT LAKE CITY - Utah gymnasts Breanna Hughes and Kailah Delaney have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 At-Large first team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. They are now placed on the ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-America team, which will be announced on June 9.
Hughes and Delaney were two of just 10 first-team all-District 8 selections for the women's at-large category, which encompasses representatives from eight states and 15 NCAA sports (beach volleyball, bowling, crew/rowing, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball and water polo).
Hughes, a five-time All-American, the 2016 Pac-12 all-around and vault champion and the NCAA Regional all-around champion, was named the Pac-12 Gymnastics Scholar-Athlete of the Year. . Hughes carries a 3.965 cumulative GPA with a double major in human development & family studies and health, society & policy. She has completed requirements for a bachelor's degree in the former and will take nursing prerequisites next year and graduate with her second bachelor's degree in the spring of 2017.
Delaney is a three-time All-American, a 2016 NCAA Regional vault champion and the only four-time All-Pac-12 vaulter in Utah history. She has made the Pac-12 All-Academic team all three years she was eligible (freshmen are not eligible). Delaney has a 3.877 cumulative GPA and a bachelor's degree in health, society and policy.
