SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah softball team landed three players on the NFCA All-Pacific Region teams, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced Thursday morning.
Junior Hannah Flippen was named a first team selection while sophomore Katie Donovan and senior Kristen Stewart earned third team honors.
Utah's 10 all-region selections over the last three years set a record for the program.
Flippen became the first Ute player to earn back-to-back-to-back all-region honors since Sandy Rhea (1996-98). Rhea was also the last Utah player to earn first team honors three consecutive years.
Flippen led the Pac-12 with a .542 batting average, a 1.034 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage. She was also second in a number of categories including total bases (61), walks (21), runs scored (24), hits (32) and stolen bases (7). Flippen also finished third in the conference with eight homers. For her career, she owns the highest batting average of any Ute ever at .384 (Cyndee Bennett, .371, 1994-97) and is fifth all-time with 149 runs scored.
Donovan and Stewart were both named all-region for the second-straight season, giving the Utes 10 two-time All-NFCA honorees in their program history.
Donovan surpassed her career high for wins with 18, third-most of any Pac-12 pitcher. Her 2.46 ERA and 159.1 innings pitched ranked fourth in the conference while she ranked seventh in strikeouts and opponents batting average.
Stewart had a career year at the plate, batting .301, slugging .463 and driving in 29 runs. She had eight games this season with multiple runs batted in, good for second on the Utes. The third baseman also finished third in the league in triples. Defensively, she was fourth in the conference with 106 fielding assists and helped Utah rank third in the nation in double plays turned.
The Utah softball team is currently preparing for the 2016 NCAA Regional Tournament in Lexington, Ky. The Utes, who are making consecutive postseason appearances for the first time since 1995, will face Illinois in the first round this Friday at 3:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. MT
