LOGAN, Utah - Utah Soccer turned in another impressive performance with a 3-0 win at Utah State this afternoon.
Hailey Skolmoski,
Natalie Vukic and
Eden Jacobsen all tallied and the Ute defense notched its third shutout in four contests this season.
After USU notched the first shot of the game,
Taylor Slattery forced a save from Grace McGuire. Utah finally got on the board in the 25
th minute after a couple of chances narrowly missed the goal.
Slattery stole the ball on the right side and passed to Jacobsen in the middle of the field. She slotted a pass to Skolmoski who knocked home her fourth goal in as many games for a 1-0 edge.
One minute later, Utah doubled its advantage thanks to a fantastic effort from Vukic After dispossessing a USU player around midfield; she dribbled up the far side, passed an Aggie defender and fired in her first goal of the season.
Jacobsen and
Tavia Leachman both tested McGuire before the half and
Max Flom had an attempt blocked by an onrushing defender.
Flom had Utah's first scoring chance in the second half before
Carly Nelson was called into action. The freshman, making her first start, stopped Danielle Nowers.
The third Ute goal arrived on the hour when Jacobsen was in the right place at the right time to rebound a try from Slattery that had initially been saved.
Nelson held on to a Jessica Brooksby effort in the 72
nd minute and then made a diving stop on Brooksby five minutes later to preserve the shutout.
Utah plays again Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. against Beijing Normal University. The match will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks. The next regular season game for Utah is on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5 at 3:30 vs. BYU at Ute Field.
