Utes Continue Impressive Showing at FGCU Invite

Fort Myers, Fla.-- In the second day at the FGCU Invitational, the Utes continued their dominating performance, tallying a perfect 7-0 in singles competition and dropping only one doubles match.
The Utes started the day with three solid doubles wins, as Margo Pletcher and Brianna Turley defeated Julia Ascua and Julianna Curtis, 6-1. Taylor Calton and Jena Cheng teamed for a victory over Breana Stampfli and Maja ORnberg while Alexia Petrovic and Victoria Robertson defeated Sofia Perez and Laura Falceto Font, both by a score of 6-3.The Utes then went on to sweep singles competition, going 7-0 on the day. Turley registered a dominant two-set victory over Kateryna Avram, 6-1, 6-1 while Petrovic and Gerstner Da Rosa each added a two-set victory, with Petrovic defeating Vladislava Litvinova, 6-2, 6-1 and Gerstner Da Rosa defeating Sophia Blanno, 6-2, 6-0.
"(I'm) really pleased with today's performance," Head Coach Mat Iandolo said. "We had a bit of a slow start in singles, but finished strong and showed solid endurance adn mental fortitude."
The Utes will conclude their final day at the FGCU Invitational by facing St. John's in doubles competition at 8 a.m. on Monday. They will face FGCU in singles competition immediately after.Â
