SAN FRANCISCO—The record-setting streak continues for Utah's
MyKayla Skinner, who for the third-straight week has won Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week and Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honors. Skinner is the only gymnast in Pac-12 history to win both awards in the same week multiple times since the advent of the Freshman of the Year award in 2013.
Â
Skinner captured four individual titles in Utah's quad meet win over No. 7 Denver, No. 15 Boise State and Illinois-Chicago last Friday—wins that included the second-best score in the nation this season in the all-around (39.775) and on floor (9.975). She also scored a career-high 9.975 to win vault and a 9.925 to tie for first on beam. She placed second on bars with a 9.90.
Â
The freshman sensation's 39.775 all-around score is tied for the fifth-best in school history and ties Ashley Postell (2005) for the best all-around score by a Utah freshman.
Â
In her first three collegiate meets, Skinner has won 13 of a possible 15 individual titles, including all three all-around, vault and floor competitions.
Â
The only Ute ever to win Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week and Pac-12 Freshman of the Week in the same week, Skinner is also the first Utah gymnast to win either award in three-straight weeks. One more award in either category will tie her for the school single-season record. Georgia Dabritz was a four-time Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week in 2015 and
Sabrina Schwab was a four-time Pac-12 Freshman of the Week last year. Dabritz holds Utah's career record for Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week awards with six from 2012-15.
Â
Skinner starts the week ranked in the top 10 in the nation in the all-around and on all four events this week, ranking No. 2 in the all-around and on floor, No. 4 on vault, No. 9 on bars and No. 10 on beam.
