SALT LAKE CITY – Utah's
Hannah Flippen will receive the Occie Evans Award as the University of Utah's top senior female athlete in a team sport for the 2016-17 academic year.

Flippen, Utah's all-time leader in runs, hits and batting average, concluded a stellar career by becoming the first three-time All-American in program history as well as the first four-time All Pac-12 honoree. She also became the first Ute to be named the Pac-12 Softball Player of the Year in consecutive seasons and the first person in the history of the conference to win that award along with Defensive Player of the Year honors

After graduating in the spring with a 3.59 GPA (psychology), Flippen received a postgraduate scholarship from the Pac-12 to pursue her masters degree at Utah. A three-time Pac-12 All-Academic selection, she became Utah softball's first two-time Academic All-American and now serves as a graduate assistant for the softball team.

Flippen was a finalist for the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year award after taking part in a number of social initiatives at Utah. She volunteered at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and several local elementary schools, worked with Special Olympics, participated in Trunk or Treat and planted a food garden at a local middle school along with fellow Utah Softball players.

Female student-athletes in basketball, soccer, softball and volleyball are eligible for the award. A softball player has now won the award three of the last five years with Kate Dickman earning the award for the 2014-15 school year and Jackie Sweet claiming it after the 2012-13 calendar came to a close.

Flippen will be honored during the home football game vs. Arizona State on Saturday afternoon
