DES MOINES, Iowa – Highlighted by
Grayson Murphy's school record breaking performance on Friday, the Utah track and field team recorded great performances at the Drake Relays and Oregon State High Performance, while a small group of Utes competed at the Robison Invitational on Friday. Utah will close out competition at the three meets on Saturday.

Drake Relays
"It was a very challenging day to say the least. The conditions were a big part of it. It was 38 degrees and raining all day, as well as windy. All of our kids were tough as nails and really competed. Our kids controlled the things they could and did their best," head coach
Kyle Kepler said.
Â
Sophomore
Christine Glasmann earned a top-five finish in the javelin, recording a mark of 138 feet, 11 inches (42.35m) to finish in fifth place.
Â
"Chrissy had another great day in the javelin, especially with the runway being so slick and it was difficult keeping the javelins dry. I thought she did a great job and really had a consistent series, which you didn't see from most of the other athletes," Kepler said.
Â
Freshman
Brooke Martin competed in the 400-meter hurdles on Thursday. Martin finished in 16
th place with a time of 1:03.79.
Â
"Brooke really had a great day. I couldn't be more proud of the freshman. She really showed her toughness today in awful conditions. To run that kind of time in those conditions is great," Kepler stated.
Â
In the long jump, freshman
Ann Wingeleth placed 10
th overall. Wingeleth recorded a mark of 18 feet, 2.25 inches (5.54m).
Â
"Ann dinged herself up but it isn't anything that we expect her to be out for a long amount of time. She was just struggling getting down the runway like she normally does. She missed the final in the long jump and we decided to pull her from the rest of the meet, knowing that we need her in the next couple of weeks. We put substitutes in both relays in her place," Kepler said.
Â
Utah competed in the 4x100 meter relay, which placed 20
th with a time of 49.03 seconds. The relay team included sophomore
Raynee Helm, Martin, junior
Madison Lanford, and freshman
Holly Stallman.
Â
The Utes also had a 4x200 meter relay. The relay team of Stallman, Lanford, Helm, and Martin, who stepped in for Wingeleth due to injury, placed 12
th with a time of 1:47.62.
Â
"We didn't get the results we would have liked to see from the relays but when you make a last-minute change it really throws off the exchanges. From a relay standpoint, it made it overwhelming for our kids," Kepler said.
Â
Oregon State High Performance
"It was a great night at OSU. The
Grayson Murphy school record tour continues and this time it was in the steeplechase. Her time beats the previous school record by 33 seconds and is the ninth fastest time in the country. Our other steeplers ran hard as well, our 1500 girls were great and had PRs, and we also had a win in the 10K," Kepler said.
Â
Highlighting the day in Corvallis was junior
Grayson Murphy. Murphy competed in the 3000-meter steeplechase and broke the school record by 33 seconds, recording a mark of 10:05.77. Murphy now holds the school record in the indoor and outdoor 5,000, along with the 3000-meter steeplechase. Murphy also took the event victory, finishing in first place at Oregon State High Performance.
Â
Also in the steeplechase, senior
Dana Snell placed 13
th with a time of 10:59.07.
Becky Sarmiento finished in 15
th place with a time of 11:05.89.
Â
Sophomore
Jade Mulvey led the pack in the 10000-meter run, finishing in first place, to win the event with a time of 38:40.24.
Â
In the 1500-meter run, junior
Hannah McInturff finished in the top-20, placing 18
th with a personal best time of 4:29.29. Freshman
Poppy Tank recorded a time of 4:31.00 to earn 25
th. Freshman
Melissa Taggart finished in 36
th place with a personal best time of 4:39.87.
Â
Closing out Friday's competition, freshman
Ashley Licata and sophomore
Hannah Allred competed in the 5000-meter run. Licata finished in 21
st place with a time of 17:46.36, while Allred finished in 23
rd place with a personal best time of 17:48.33.
Â
