DES MOINES, Iowa – The Utah track and field team closed out the weekend's competition on Saturday at the Drake Relays and BYU Robison Invitational. The Drake Relays were held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. The BYU Robison Invitational was held at the Clarence F. Robison Track and Field in Provo, Utah.
Â
At the Drake Relays, Utah competed in the sprint medley and finished in 11
th place with a time of 4:06.81. The medley team was comprised of freshman
Holly Stallman, junior
Madison Lanford, freshman
Sarah Newton, and freshman
Nicole Griffiths.
Â
"For a morning race, with the wind chill as cold as it was and about 30 degrees, I thought they did a nice job of being tough and competing. They were third in their heat and competed hard throughout the race," Kepler said.
Â
The Utes also competed in the distance medley. The medley team of sophomore
Sadie Wassum, freshman
Brooke Martin, sophomore
Caitlin Faust, and junior
Dakota Grossman finished in ninth place with a time of 11:57.82.
Â
"With the weather conditions getting worse as the day went on, this medley group ran extremely hard and gave it everything they could. We certainly wish we would have placed a bit higher but you cannot argue with the effort they gave," Kepler explained.
Â
Closing out the Drake Relays, freshman
Amanda Gehrich finished in second place in the 1500-meter run. Gehrich recorded a time of 4:29.09 to record her runner-up finish.
Â
"Amanda ran a terrific race. The gal that was the favorite came out hard and Amanda did everything she could to stay with her, but the girl got away. She ran a smart race, very instinctually with her moves. It is a great experience for her to be runner-up here at Drake with this type of competition," Kepler said.
