SALT LAKE CITY—The Ute gymnasts led the way for the best semester ever in the classroom for Utah's teams. Utah's combined grade-point average across all 19 teams in the spring term was a department-best 3.165, marking the 22nd-consecutive semester above a 3.0 GPA for Utah athletics.
Â
The gymnastics team, which won its third Pac-12 Championship in the last four years and finished fifth at the 2017 NCAA Championships, earned the department's highest team GPA with its 3.676. Women's soccer, which advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament last fall—the best finish in school history—was second with a 3.606 spring term GPA.
Â
Nearly 68-percent of Utah's student-athletes qualified for the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for the spring semester, which requires a minimum 3.00 GPA. Every member of the gymnastics and men's tennis teams earned Athletic Director's Honor Roll status.
Â
In addition, a third of Utah's student-athletes (33.09%) made the Dean's List (minimum 3.50 term GPA with at least 12 graded credits) in the spring semester.
Â
The spring semester team GPA capped an impressive year in the classroom for the gymnasts, who previously placed seven members on the 2017 Pac-12 Gymnastics All-Academic teams. First-team selections were
Shannon McNatt,
Sabrina Schwab and
Maddy Stover.
Tiffani Lewis made the second team, while
Kari Lee,
Baely Rowe and
MaKenna Merrell were named honorable mention.
Â
McNatt, a 4.00 student majoring in economics, was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large first team and is currently on the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot.
