SAN FRANCISCO—Utah's
MaKenna Merrell-Giles, who posted the top all-around score in the Pac-12 last week and won three individual titles in Utah's 197.700-196.250 win over No. 15 Washington, has been named the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week for the first time.
Â
Merrell-Giles' career-high 39.675 all-around score against the Huskies is tied for the ninth-best mark in school history and gave the junior from Pleasant Grove, Utah, her third all-around win of the season. She scored a perfect 10.0 on the vault—the first 10.0 on vault by a Ute since 2015 and her first career 10.0 on any event. She also scored a career-high 9.975 to win the floor exercise (her fourth victory on floor this season) and tied her career high on bars with a 9.875.
Â
Merrell-Giles is Utah's third Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year honoree this season.
MyKayla Skinner won the award on Jan. 9 and Jan. 16.
