SAN FRANCISCO—Utah sophomore
MyKayla Skinner finished the regular season the same way she started it—as the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week. It is the fifth Gymnast of the Week award this season for Skinner, who is the Pac-12 record-holder for most Gymnast of the Week awards with 12 in just two seasons.
Skinner led the league in Gymnast of the Week awards for her second year in a row, this time beating out Elizabeth Price of Stanford, who won three awards. Last year, Skinner set the Pac-12 record with seven Gymnast of the Week awards.
In last week's 198.150-196.350 win over Georgia—Utah's largest margin of victory over its SEC rival since 1995—Skinner won the all-around (39.725), beam (9.95) and bars (9.925). She also tied her season high on floor with a 9.975 to place second.
The No. 2 ranked all-arounder in the country, Skinner's 39.725 all-around score against Georgia was the best in the Pac-12 last week and tied the seventh-best score in school history. It was her 19th career all-around win, placing her second on Utah's all-time career charts. She now has 28 individual titles this season and 71 in her career.
Utah won six Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week citations this season: Skinner on Jan. 9, 16, Feb. 13, Feb. 20 and Mar. 20 and
MaKenna Merrell-Giles on Feb. 6.
The Utes compete at the Pac-12 Championship this Saturday in Tucson, Ariz. Skinner is the defending Pac-12 champion in the all-around, vault and floor.
