SALT LAKE CITY—Utah sophomore
MyKayla Skinner and junior
MaKenna Merrell-Giles have been honored as regular season All-Americans by the National Association of College Gymnastics Coaches (NACGC).
Â
Skinner joins Oklahoma's Maggie Nichols and LSU's Myia Hambrick as the only gymnasts to make the 2018 regular season All-America team on all four events and the all-around. Skinner made the first team in the all-around, where she is ranked No. 2 in the nation, as well as on vault (No. 5) and floor (No. 3). She is a second-team selection on bars (No. 10) and beam (No. 14). Merrell-Giles is an NACGC first-team selection in the all-around (No. 8), vault (No. 6) and floor (No. 6).
Skinner increased her All-America portfolio to 13 with the latest awards. She was a four-time NCAA All-American and four-time NACGC regular season All-American as a freshman last year. Merrell-Giles now has six career All-America awards. This is Merrell-Giles' first time as a regular season All-American. She was a three-time NCAA All-American last year.
Â
The regular season All-America awards were instituted in 2013. NCAA awards are won at the NCAA Championships.
