Three-time All-American moves into new role with Utes
Â
SALT LAKE CITY - Utah head coach
Amy Hogue announced the promotion of
Hannah Flippen to assistant coach this afternoon.
Â
"Today is a great day for the Utes," Hogue stated. "We have hired Hannah and I could not be happier for our program. Change is hard and with Maggie leaving to become a head coach, there were big shoes to fill.
Â
Hannah has all the qualities needed to be a fantastic coach. She obviously knows the game extremely well, but is also a great leader and works very well with people. She loves the Utes and I know she will work hard to make sure this program continues to improve every day."
Â
"I am incredibly honored to have this opportunity to coach at my alma mater," Flippen said. "I am so excited to get working with the staff and players to help improve this program. I could not have imagined a better starting point for my coaching career than the University of Utah."
Â
Flippen will be replacing Maggie Livreri, who spent seven seasons with the Utes and is leaving to become the head coach at 2018 Mountain West Conference champions Boise State.
Â
Utah's all-time leader in runs, hits and batting average, Flippen concluded a stellar career (2014-17) by becoming the first three-time All-American in program history, as well as the first four-time All-Pac-12 honoree. She was the first Ute named Pac-12 Softball Player of the Year in consecutive seasons and the first person in the history of the conference to win that award, along with Defensive Player of the Year honors, in the same campaign.
Â
After graduating in the spring of '17 with a 3.59 GPA (psychology), Flippen received a postgraduate scholarship from the Pac-12 to pursue her master's degree at Utah. A three-time Pac-12 All-Academic selection, she became Utah's first two-time Academic All-American and was a finalist for the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year award after taking part in a number of social initiatives at Utah.
Â
Flippen spent last summer playing professionally for the ScrapYard Dawgs and led them to a National Pro Fastpitch title.
Â
Internationally, she played for the USA Elite Team in 2016 and the national team in 2017. She is currently representing her country at the USA Softball International Cup in Irvine, Calif. With the national team, she is hitting .750 with three home runs (seven XBH's), nine runs scored and 13 batted in.
