SALT LAKE CITY - A pair of former Utes took to the diamond last week to represent their respective countries at the USA Softball International Cup in Irvine, Calif.
Hannah Flippen, now an assistant coach for the Utes, represented the United States and helped the Blue team to a third-place finish. She paced the team in hits (14), doubles (4), homers (5), extra base hits (10), runs scored (12), runs driven in (20) and slugging (1.522) while racking up a .609 batting average. Â

Another former Ute that stood out last week was
Anissa Urtez. Playing shortstop for the Mexican National Team, she batted .313, tops among all starters, and paced the team in total hits. She was also second on the squad with a .500 slugging percentage and .899 OPS. In the field, she did not commit an error among 25 total chances.
Both Flippen and Urtez have returned to their professional team, Scrap Yard Fast Pitch, to compete in the Monica Abbot Classic before closing the season in Myrtle Beach, S.C., July 24-25.
