BOULDER, CO. – No. 23 Utah dropped its opening Pac-12 match at Colorado in five sets on Wednesday, September 19.

The Utes went up 13-11 in the fifth, but Colorado used a timeout and ran off four straight points to clinch the Pac-12 victory on their home floor.

Dani Drews led the team with 20 kills and also had 10 digs. It was the fourth time this season she has had at least 20 kills in a match.

Utah grabbed leads after the first and third set, but Colorado bounced back each time to force the fifth set.

The Buffs held an early lead in the first set, but Utah went on a 4-0 run to tie the score at 11. Colorado then took a 19-17 lead, but Utah responded and closed the set on an 8-2 run.
Kennedi Evans had two aces late in the set to get the Utes to 20 and they didn't look back taking the early lead in the match.

After dropping the second set, Utah's serving took the third set over. The Utes ended up having three service aces with
Bailey Choy having two of them. Choy led Utah on a nine-point run that blew the third set wide open putting the Utes up 17-7. They closed the set out 25-13 after hitting .500 as a team.

The Utes got off to a great start in the fourth leading 6-2, but Colorado wasn't going to make it that easy on their home floor. The Buffs came back to take the lead and went on a 6-0 run in the middle of the set to go up 19-12. Utah couldn't recover after that and the match headed to a fifth set.

Utah once again got off to a great start at the beginning of the set leading 5-1. Colorado fought back and the teams traded points back and forth all the way through the fifth set. With the Utes trailing 11-10, Drews and
Kenzie Koerber each had a kill, and then a block by Koerber and
Phoebe Grace had Utah sitting in a great position up 13-11. Out of a Colorado timeout, the Buffs won four straight points to steal the match away from Utah in the Pac-12 opener.

The Utes held Colorado to a .161 hitting percentage in the match.

Saige Ka'aha'aina-Torres had her best night in a Utah uniform finishing the match with her first career double-double with 20 assists and 13 digs.
Bailey Choy also had a double-double leading the team with 28 assists and having 13 digs.

Utah will now travel home and host No. 17 UCLA in the Huntsman Center on Friday, September 19 at 7 p.m. If fans wear red to the match, they will get in for free.
