BOZEMAN, Mont. - Addison Dvoracek won his second giant slalom race of the year for the Utah ski team as the Utes stand sixth as a team after the first day of the Montana State Invitational.
Dvoracek skied the second-fastest first run of the day en-route to the win.
Ty Sprock earned his third career top 10 finish with a ninth-place run.
Huston Philp finished 23
rd. The Utes had five skiers struggle in their first run as
Tomas Birkner de Miguel and
Linus Walch did not finish their first runs,
Martin Grasic and
Joachim Bakken Lien both hooked a gate and
Fredrik Maurstad did not qualify for the second run.
Katie Vesterstein led the women with a 15
th-place finish.
Eirin Engeset struggled in her second run after running the second-fastest first run, finishing 21
st.
Roni Remme did not finish her second run after standing fifth after the first run while
Katie Parker and
Julie Mohagen also did not finish their second runs.
Utah is sixth overall after day one with 82 points. Colorado leads the meet with 158.5 points followed by New Mexico (151), Montana State (139), Alaska Anchorage (119) and Denver (117).
The teams break tomorrow from the MSU Invitational for an RMISA giant slalom qualifier, which does not count towards any team scoring and is used as an extra opportunity for skiers to earn qualification points for the NCAA Championships at the end of the season.
