LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Led by an upset over the second seed in the singles main draw by
Madeline Lamoreaux, the University of Utah women's tennis team posted another successful outing on day two of competition at the ITA Regional Championships. Following Thursday's play, Utah will have two Utes in the quarterfinals of the singles main draw, along with both doubles teams advancing to the round of 16 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on the UNLV Campus.

The day started with the round of 32 doubles as both Utah duos advanced to the round of 16 after picking up wins to open the day.
Madeline Lamoreaux and
Lindsay Hung were matched up against Wyoming's Fernandez and Royo and came out on top with a score of 8-5. The sixth-seeded
Madison Tattini and
Whitney Hekking faced off against Lin and Lee from UNLV and rolled to a dominant 8-1 victory.

In the round of 32 singles, Lamoreaux matched up against Maria Campos from Colorado, as she dropped the first match 5-7, but went on to rally back in the final sets 7-5, 6-2 and take the victory against Campos. Hung played Madeline Almeida from BYU, coming away with a 6-0 victory in the first set, and then capped things off in the second set, 6-4.Â

The fifth-seeded
Madison Tattini went head-to-head against Utah State's Hannah Jones and defeated Jones 6-2, 6-2 to complete the trio of Utes headed to the round of 16. Hekking was tasked with facing top-seeded Chiara Tomasetti from Northern Arizona in her round of 32 matchup. Hekking fell short 1-6, 1-6, to finish up action in the round of 32 singles for Utah.

Now in the round of 16 singles, Lamoreaux carded a huge upset over the second-seeded TJ Famagalli from Air Force after posting a straight-set victory. Lamoreaux downed Famagalli in an impressive win, 6-1, 6-3 to earn a spot in the quarterfinal round of the main draw.

Tattini saw En-Pei Huang from UNLV her second match of the day. Tattini took the narrow first set 7-5 from Huang, but couldn't get the second set win, falling 4-6. Tattini bounced back in the third set and won 6-2 to join Lamoreaux in the quarterfinals.

The final match of the day for the Utes came between
Lindsay Hung and the fourth-seeded Sara Nayar from Colorado. Hung dropped the match 2-6, 2-6 to end her singles run.Â

The Utah women's tennis team will be back in action at the ITA Regional Championships tomorrow morning. Play will begin at 9 a.m. PT with the round of 16 and quarterfinal round of doubles and quarterfinal of singles.
