MONTEREY, Calif. – With the first 18 holes of the Saint Mary's Invitational complete, the Utah Men's golf team sits in a tie for 10
th place overall after shooting 4-over par (288). With two players in the top 25, the team will look to rebound from a tough first round to move up the leader board.
"This wasn't the way we were hoping to start the tournament," head coach
Garrett Clegg said. "There are still two rounds remaining, so hopefully we can play better tomorrow. If we can reduce the number of three putts and big mistakes tomorrow, we will do better. We are looking forward to getting the second round started."
Leading the Utes are senior
Mitchell Schow and junior
Blake Tomlinson. Both players shot 1-under par (70) and are both currently sitting tied at 21
st overall. Schow and Tomlinson both started hot with neither shooting worse than 1-over par through the first nine holes.
Finishing next for the Utes was junior
Tristan Mandur, who is tied for 41
st after shooting 1-over par (72). Mandur shot 1-over par or better on the back nine to help him advance in the standings.
True freshman
Jesper von Reedtz finished the day carding 5-over par (76). His play placed him in a tie for 78
th overall with senior
Jordan Costello rounding out the team shooting 7-over par (78) to finish in a tie for 92
nd.
The Utes also had
Colton Tanner competing as an individual in the tournament, shooting even par (70), ending the day tied for 33
rd overall.
