The Utah Golf team returns to action, teeing off its 2026-27 campaign on the road in Frisco, Texas for the Jackson T. Stephens Cup from Sept.14-16 that will be featured live on the GOLF Channel.
"The first tournament of the year always brings a lot of excitement," head coach Garrett Clegg said. "For us to be on TV out of the gates is fantastic and a great opportunity to showcase our program here at the U."
The Utes started last season ranked No. 25, climbing to No.1 in October 2025 for the first time in program history along with star Gabriel Palacios claiming the No. 1 spot as an individual. Utah ended it's 2025-26 season ranked No. 36 with three top three finishes including one win at The Schenkel Invitational.
Utah Golf took sixth place at the Big 12 Championship, finishing a spot better than the previous season while Spanish phenom, Sergio Jimenez, tied a Big 12 record, taking sole possession of third place as an individual.
Additionally, the Utes made their fifth appearance in six years at the NCAA Regionals as a program.
The Utes look to continue their emergence in collegiate golf this season, returning three of five starters (Palacios, Jimenez, and Jack Jerge) while welcoming in two freshmen and a transfer to their roster.
"We have three players in our lineup that have a lot of experience and then two players where it will be their first time ever start for our team in the lineup," Cleggs said about the 2026-27 starting lineup. "There will be a lot of unknown for us, however, it will be great to see how we compete. We have a great group and I'm excited to see how we do this week."
UTAH'S LINEUP
Utah will have five golfers compete at the Stephens Cup. Three are returners from last season while sophomore Ivan Enguita and freshman Will Pizza will occupy the spots left from departing seniors Davis Johnson and Brandon Robison.
THE FIELD
The Jackson T. Stephens Cup will feature six teams with Utah being the only program from outside the state of Texas.
TOURNAMENT DETAILS
The Jackson T. Stephens Cup is named in memory of the late Augusta National Golf Club Chairman, Jackson T. Stephens.
The tournament is a three-day stroke and match play event featuring NCAA Division I National Championship-contending men's and women's teams and top players from Historically Black Colleges and Universities and United States Military Service Academies.
Days one and two of the Stephens Cup will consist of 54 total holes of stroke play before switching to 18 holes of team match play on the third day of the event.
The first 54 holes of stroke play will determine the seeding for the fields on the final day of match play, with the low four teams advancing to match play competition.
Fans can watch all the action live on the GOLF Channel starting Monday, Sep. 14 from 4-7 p.m. MT. The GOLF Channel broadcast will resume Tuesday, Sep. 15 and Wednesday, Sep. 16 from 3-6 p.m. MT.
