SALT LAKE CITY –
Gabriel Palacios and Utah Golf made some noise in
the first Clippd Scoreboard Rankings of the year coming in at No. 1 in the country both individually and as a team.
This is the first time in program history either an individual or the team has been ranked first.
Palacios has had a monster start to his junior campaign placing third at the Wohali to open the 2025-26 collegiate golf season, following it up with an individual crown at the Tindall. Recently, Utah's Guatemalan phenom was able to compete
at the World Amateur Team Championships in Singapore where he tied for 20
th as an individual player.
"I'm so excited for Gabo," said head coach
Garrett Clegg. "He is off to a great start, and I am not at all surprised by his success. He puts in a lot of hard work and is one of the top players in college golf.
The Utes have also seen a lot of success early on as a team
taking third at the Wohali in Coalville, Utah, earlier this year and following it up with
a second place finish at the Tindall. Utah's efforts elevated their status in the Bushnell/Golfweek DI Rankings,
going from No. 25 to start the season to No. 15.
"It is early and there are a lot of tournaments left to be played," said coach Clegg of the Utes' first place NCAA ranking. "These early rankings are great, and fun to see, but we can't be distracted by these numbers right now. We are off to a good start this year, and we hope to continue things this week at the Williams Cup."
Additionally, senior
Davis Johnson earned a No. 5 individual ranking, while fellow senior
Brandon Robison came in at No. 39, and junior
Sergio Jimenez wrapped up Utah's ranking spree at No. 68 in the country.
Utah heads to North Carolina for the Williams Cup this weekend from Oct. 19-21 and will put a bow on their fall slate a few days later, competing at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate from Oct. 24-26.
