No. 25 Utah Golf Takes Third Place at The Wohali

Utes finished with two players in the top three with Davis Johnson taking first
COALVILLE, Utah - The preseason No. 25-ranked University of Utah Men's Golf team secured a third-place podium finish after day two of the inaugural 54-hole Wohali Classic at Wohali Golf Course (7,873, Par 71).

In addition to a third-place finish in the team standings, two Utes finished top five in the tournament's individual standings with Davis Johnson tying with Arizona State's Connor Williams at 9-under (204) for first place. The victory marks the second win of Davis' collegiate career, as the Arizona native took home his first collegiate trophy during the 2024-2025 season at the Tindall Classic.
After firing off rounds of 3-under (68) and 1-under (70) during the 36-hole portion of the tournament, Johnson saved his best golf for last, shooting a 5-under (66), good enough for the day's second-lowest score (tied). The Fifth-Year Utes' front nine would be one for the books, as an eagle-birdie finish would see him take a 5-under (30) into the final nine holes of the tournament. Johnson's 5-under round would stay intact throughout Wohali's challenging back-nine, as the final 5-under score finished well below the final round scoring average of 71.7.
With a 54-hole score of 204 (68-70-66), Johnson's Wohali Classic score is one of the lowest 54-hole totals in program history. Moreover, the dominant showing marks the Utes' lowest round since Javier Barcos fired off a 201 (69-68-64) at the 2023 Pac-12 Championships on April 29, 2023. On the team side of the record books, the Utes' 54-hole total of 839 (278-287-274) marks the program's ninth lowest 54-hole total (since 1990). Additionally, the team's third round team score of 274 (66-66-67-75) ties the program's 10th-lowest 18-hole combined score (lowest round since the John Burns Intercollegiate in 2023, 273).
Junior Gabriel Palacios joined Davis within the top three, recording a 54-hole 7-under (206) to take a share of third place.
Palacios matched Johnson's team-low of 5-under (66) in the third round. The junior from Guatemala began his day on the wrong side of par, with a bogey on the first, but rallied back with a bogey-free, 5-under round throughout the remaining 17 holes. After all was said and done, Palacios finished as one of the tournament's highest risers, carding an 8-under score in the final 36 holes of the tournament, after an opening round of 1-over (72).
Senior Brandon Robison also saw himself rise up the scoreboard during day two of the Wohali. After a net 1-over (143) first day, Robison played his best golf of the tournament with a 4-under (67) final round. The Utah native's dominant day two showing saw him finish within the top-10 in the final standings, with a 54-hole score of 5-under (208), and a share of eighth place.
Sergio Jimenez rounded out the Utes' squad with a 29th-place finish in the individual standings. The junior from Spain ended his week with a 4-over (75) in the final round, finishing the tournament with a 54-hole total of 6-over (219).
