SALT LAKE CITY – Despite returning the fewest routines among any team that competed at the NCAA Championships a year ago, the nation's coaches tabbed Utah gymnastics as the No. 5 team in the 2020 preseason poll, released today by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA). This marks the third consecutive year Utah has started the season ranked fifth in the preseason poll.
Oklahoma was picked to defend its NCAA title, earning the top spot in the preseason poll, while the 2019 runner-ups in LSU were voted No. 2 behind the Sooners. Rounding out the top-five ahead of Utah in the WCGA preseason poll are Florida and UCLA. The Pac-12 has three preseason top-10 teams as California was voted No. 9 behind the Utes and Bruins.
Utah will face eight preseason top-25 programs this year, which includes a Pac-12 slate of six top-25 opponents. Utah will be tested immediately this season when No. 12 Kentucky comes to the Huntsman Center for the season opener on Friday, Jan. 3. Other ranked opponents on the home schedule are matchups against No. 21 Arizona State (Jan. 24), No. 11 Oregon State (Feb. 15), and No. 22 Stanford (March 6).
Ranked road opponents for Utah this season are No. 4 UCLA, No. 9 California and No. 17 Washington. At the Rio Tinto Best of Utah NCAA Gymnastics meet, the Utes will face ranked opponents in No. 23 BYU and No. 26 Southern Utah.
Utah returns just 10-of-24 routines from last year's NCAA Championships, which is the fewest among the eight teams that competed at the finals site. Eight letterwinners come back from the 2019 season, including two All-Americans in
Missy Reinstadtler and
Sydney Soloski, while Utah added a stellar freshman class and an immediate contributor in transfer
Emilie LeBlanc.
Season tickets are on sale now with limited lower bowl seats currently available, while season tickets in the upper bowl start at just $30. Fans can also purchase a Mini Plan and select any three meets for just $20. Visit
