PULLMAN, Wash. –
Sedrick Barefield tied a season-high with 33 points and
Donnie Tillman registered a double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds) to help lift the Utah Runnin' Utes to a 92-79 Pac-12 Conference road win over the Washington State Cougars, Saturday evening at Beasley Coliseum.
The Utes moved to 15-12 overall and 9-6 in league play, while WSU dropped to 11-16 on the year and 4-10 in the conference standings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The top two three-point shooting teams in the conference put on a show in the first half as both Utah and Washington State combined to drain 18 three's. The Utes shot .588 percent from downtown, knocking down 10 of its 17 attempts, and the Cougars went 8-of-12 to shoot .667 percent in the half. Utah would erase an early 11-point deficit and following a 12-3 run around the 5:30 mark, the Utes would end up taking a 45-43 lead into the locker room.
Barefield was 4-of-6 from deep, scoring 19 points to lead all Utah players at the break.
Parker Van Dyke followed with nine points as he was 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. WSU's Robert Franks led all players at intermission with 22 points and a 4-of-5 effort from three-point range.
Utah pushed its lead to 53-45 after opening the second half with an 8-2 run and then later pushed its lead to double-digits, up 58-48, with a three-pointer from Barefield. Utah would lead by as many as 14 points with 13 minutes to play and never looked back on the way to earning the 13-point road win.
Barefield scored 14 points in the second half on the way to tying his season-high of 33 points. It marked the second 30-point game of the season and third for his career. Tillman scored 10 points in the second half and went onto post his second double-double of the season and first since pouring in 13 points and pulling down 10 boards against Nevada back on Dec. 29.
Van Dyke scored 16 points and
Riley Battin chipped in with 11 points to give the Utes four players in double figures for the 10th time this season. Utah is now 9-1 on the season when at least four players score in double figures.
Utah, who defeated WSU for the 11th straight time dating back to 2015, shot .525 (31-59) from the field overall and .457 (16-35) from three-point range. The 16 three-pointers made are tied for the third-most in a single game, just one shy of the 17 mark originally set against UNLV back in 2002 and the 17 three's made earlier this season at home against Mississippi Valley State.
Utah erased a double-digit deficit to come back and win for the third time this season. It marks the second time the Utes have erased the double-digit deficit and win by 10 points or more. Utah trailed Arizona State by 17 points in its Pac-12 opener and would go on to win 96-86.
This also marked the third time this season that Utah has posted at least 90 points in a Pac-12 game, tying the school mark which was set back in 2015-16.

POSTGAME QUOTES
Utah head coach Larry Krystkowiak
On Donnie Tillman's play tonight …
"He had a great game. He hasn't been overly consistent, but we put some time in the past couple of days on some individual stuff. It is hard to give a guy confidence, but hitting his first three is always a good thing. Then he hit a second three and he gets engaged. We were really good defensively and I thought he was one of those that played well. His energy was a key component of that."
On the road trip this week …
"We were kind of at a crossroads coming off that Washington loss and we could have went one of two ways. These trips aren't easy. When you leave on Tuesday and play to Saturday, our guys are not used to being away for five days and it is hard. But, we had a really good two days of practice and then got on a jet to get here last night. You are always curious to see how your players are going to respond and we didn't start the game right, but we sure captured some of that momentum and got things going."
