Utah 7 Niagara 2
The Utes started the day by taking the lead against the Purple Eagles.
Julia Noskin worked a four-pitch walk to begin the game and moved up on a grounder to second. After a four-pitch walk to
Alyssa Barrera,
Makayla Hurst came through with a single through the left side for a 1-0 score line.
Utah added a pair in the second as
Katie Faulk started the inning with a walk. After another bunt,
Hailey Hilburn singled and a throwing error on an attempted steal during the next at bat led to a run. A walk to
BreOnna Castaneda put runners on the corners and Utah attempted another double steal that allowed Hilburn to cross home plate.
Utah broke things open in the third as
Ryley Ball walked on four pitches, continuing the theme from the first two frames.
Ally Dickman doubled down the right field line to add a run and then stole third. She scored on an
Alyssa Palacios single. The sophomore stole second and came in on a Hilburn base hit, making it 6-0.
Once again, the fourth started with a Utah walk as Barrera reached base. Dickman doubled again to put a pair in scoring position and an error allowed Utah's center fielder to score the game's seventh run.
The Purple Eagles scored a pair of runs to prolong the game but a Utah win was inevitable.
Chantelle Ladner started and closed the game, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing just one hit. In between her stints in the circle,
Sydney Sandez went 2 1/3 innings and evened her record at 4-4 on the season.
SIU Edwardsville 5 Utah 2
It was a frustrating second game for Utah against SIUE as the Utes left 13 runners on base and never got the offense going against the Cougars.
Utah started well by scoring the game's first run. Noskin reached on an error and bunted up by Castaneda. Barrera smacked a single to center to get the Utes on top.
SIUE responded by capitalizing on a leadoff walk when Bailley Concatto doubled in the tying run on a full count.
The Utes went back on top in the third.
Ellessa Bonstrom singled and stole second. After a pitch hit Hurst, Dickman smoked the first pitch she saw through the right side for a RBI single.
The Cougars quickly evened the score when Kalei Kaneshiro homered to begin the fourth. After a pitching change, a walk, error and bunt single led to the bases being loaded. Sammie Ofoia singled up the middle to plate a pair and would eventually score herself on an Alana Cobb-Adams single, making the deficit 5-2.
Utah had a shot to get closer in the fifth as Barrera singled and Hurst and Palacios walked to load the bases. However, SIUE was able to get out of the jam.
Bonstrom walked in the sixth and Barrera would single to create another run-scoring threat but the Cougars got a fly to right to keep it a three-run game and earn the victory.
