KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Utah senior
Sedrick Barefield has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District Team, the organization announced today. Barefield was named a first team selection out of District 20.
Â
Barefield, who also earned All-Pac-12 First Team honors just this past week, led the Runnin' Utes with a 16.8 points per game scoring average, becoming the first Utah player to average more than 15 points a game in a season since
Kyle Kuzma registered 16.4 ppg back in 2016-17. The Corona, Calif., native knocked down .408 from the field overall, .388 from three-point range and .825 from the charity stripe. He led Utah in field goals made (167), three-pointers made (93) and assists (118).
Â
Barefield became the 39th player in Utah history to score at least 1,000 points in a career, totaling 1,121 career points in just over two and a half seasons. He ranks 32nd all-time in scoring, just behind Andrew Bogut's total of 1,126 career points. Barefield also ranks among the school's best for three-pointers in a season, as he is tied for second in single-season school history with 93 three-pointers made. His 183 three-pointers made in a career ranks eighth most in school history.
Â
Barefield is the fifth different player in the past six seasons to earn NABC All-District honors. He joins former Utes
Justin Bibbins (2018, 2nd Team), Kyke Kuzma (2017, 2nd Team),
Jakob Poeltl (2016, 1st Team) and Delon Wright (2015, 1
st Team; 2014, 2
nd Team).
Â
Joining Barefield on the NABC District 20 First Team were Oregon State's Tres Tinkle, Washington State's Robert Franks, and Washington's Jaylen Nowell and Matisse Thybulle.
Â
Barefield and the Utes finished the 2018-19 regular season 17-14 overall, which included an 11-7 mark in Pac-12 Conference play. Following a prediction of finishing eighth in the league's preseason poll, Utah would finish in sole possession of third place in the league standings to become the only Pac-12 team in the past five seasons to earn a first-round bye in the conference tournament.
