SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 47 University of Utah women's tennis team returns to the Eccles Tennis Center this week for one match, taking on the Oregon Duck on Sunday, March 31. The match will begin at 11:30 a.m. MT.
The match will air on Pac-12 Network and Pac-12 Mountain with admission to the event being free to the public. Live updates will also be available on Twitter (@UteWomensTennis) and Instagram (@UtahWomensTennis) with a recap on UtahUtes.com after the completion of the match.
The Utes enter the match 10-5 overall and are 1-3 in Pac-12 play. Utah ranks No. 47 in the ITA Rankings this week and has been ranked in the top-50 in the last several polls.
Utah's lone Pac-12 win came during a thrilling upset over No. 28 Washington State in February. The score was tied 3-3 heading into court two where
Madison Tattini was able to come away with the clutch win for the 4-3 victory for the Utes.
The Utes are coming off two tough losses to Arizona State (4-0) and Arizona (4-1). The Utes were able to claim the doubles point against the Wildcats with the teams of
Whitney Hekking/
Leah Heimuli and
Lindsay Hung/
Emily Dush winning on courts two and three, but were unable to secure a singles win the rest of the way.
Despite the tough losses, the Utes are having a strong season through all six athletes in the lineup. In Utah's starting lineup, the Utes have three freshmen putting up solid numbers with Tattini and Dush scoring eight singles wins each and Hung recording seven.
In doubles play, the No. 1 doubles team of
Brianna Chisholm and Tattini have an overall record of 7-3 this season and are 2-0 in Pac-12 play. The duo is also 2-1 against ranked opponents, beating the No. 71 team out of Washington State and the No. 43 doubles team out of Washington.
After Utah's home match this weekend against Oregon, they will take on a three-match road trip, starting at Denver on April 2. They will resume Pac-12 play with UCLA and USC on April 5 and April 6 on the road.
