SALT LAKE CITY – It was senior day for the University of Utah track and field team as they hosted day two of the 2019 Weber State/Utah Spring Classic on Saturday. Held at the McCarthey Family Track and Field Complex, the Utes recorded many new personal-bests and moved five more athletes into the Utah all-time top-10 lists.

"Just another stellar day at the track, particularly here at home where we always seem to perform really well and I thought up and down the lineup we had a lot of special performances especially from several of our seniors but also from some younger kids," head coach
Kyle Kepler said. "The senior recognition was great and those seniors deserve so much credit. They have been nothing but a class act and particularly in a more challenging year than usual and I know we all miss Lauren and that was really tough but the video guys put together a video that I thought was really awesome."Â

Freshman
Maya LeBar got things started for the Utes as she competed in the women's triple jump event where she would capture the event title. LeBar finished with a personal-best jumping distance of 11.23 meters (36' 10.25") and moved herself into 10th-place all-time.Â

Utah had a strong showing in the 3,000-meter race as five of their six competitors finished inside of the top-10. Sophomore
Emma Christensen led the way as she finished in third-place with a huge personal-best time of 10:18.52. This time tops her previous record by 28 seconds. Freshman
Sara Leonard followed in Christensen earning fifth place in a time of 10:41.96. Senior
Hannah Allred, sophomore
Astrid Lindgren and junior
Jade Mulvey rounded out the top-five finishers for the Utes. Allred placed seventh with a time of 10:49.91, Lindgren captured eighth in a personal-best time of 10:50.89 and Mulvey finished in ninth also in a personal-best time of 10:51.10. Lindgren beat her previous best by seven seconds while Mulvey set a huge PR topping her previous best by 36 seconds. Sophomore
Ashley Licata also competed finishing in 11th-place in a time of 11.08.77.Â

Seniors
Kolbi Sims and
Eliza Hansen represented Utah in the high jump where Sims would go on to win the event title. Sims finished with a new personal record of 1.73-meters (5' 8") and moved herself into eighth-place all-time. Hansen finished tied for sixth with a height of 1.62-meters (5' 3").Â

In the 400-meter hurdles, junior
Brooke Martin and sophomore
Ruby Jane Mathewson competed for the Utes. B. Martin earned fourth-place in a season best time of 1:02.77 while Mathewson finished in sixth with a time of 1:04.79.Â

Utah had its largest number of competitors in the 800-meter race where all seven finished in the top-12. Freshman
Brooke Manson finished in first place running just off her PR pace to finish with a time of 2:09.82. Junior
Sarah Feeny and seniors Megan Perkins,
Mesa Weidle and
Sadie Wassum finished after Feeny placing fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively. Perkins finished in a personal best time of 2:12.60, Weidle also finished with a new personal best time 2:16.04 and Wassum notched a time of 2:16.68. Freshman
Kennedy Powell placed ninth with a time of 2:18.10 while junior
Anna Busatto placed 12th in a time of 2:20.17.Â

Moving to the 100-meter dash, freshman
Taylor Watson set a new personal record time of 11:85 as she captured a second-place finish. LeBar captured fourth (11.98), while senior
Raynee Helm-Wheelock and freshman
Skyler Blair and
Lauren O'Banion also competed for the Utes. Wheelock finished in 12.00 while Blair earned seventh in a time of 12.27 and O'Banion captured 10th in a time of 12.60.Â

The Utes wrapped up the day by competing in the women's 4x400-meter relay. The Utah 'A' team, which included O'Banion, Blair, Sims and James, finished in first place with a time of 3:45.86. The Utah 'B' squad with Reese, Mathewson, Watson and B. Martin finished in second with a time of 3:48.69. The Utah 'C' squad with Manson, Hessler, Griffiths and Newton placed fourth in a time of 4:00.51.Â

 "Overall it was a great weekend especially being here at home I thought it was really special," Kepler said. "I'm really proud of everybody and we still have a lot of season left but it will be the end of the year before we know it so we need to get back to work next week and get prepared for out next meet."
