FORT WORTH, Texas—Utah gymnasts
MyKayla Skinner and
MaKenna Merrell-Giles earned first-team All-America honors for their performance in the NCAA Championship semifinals yesterday. Skinner collected four All-America awards by tying for fifth across both semifinals on vault (9.925) and floor (9.9375), tying for sixth on bars (9.9125) and placing seventh in the all-around (39.550), while Merrell-Giles tied for eighth on vault (9.90).
Skinner added to her school record career All-America total, which now stands at 26. Of those, 13 were won at the 2017-2019 NCAA Championships and the other 13 are regular season All-America awards. Merrell-Giles finishes her gymnastics career as a nine-time All-American, with Friday's award her fourth won during NCAA Championship competition.
Utah's season ended in the semifinals with a fourth-place finish. It was the 44th-consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships for the Utes—the longest string of appearances in college gymnastics history—and its record 38th NCAA Championships competition.
