SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Utah men's golf team moved up three spots from round one to finish in sixth after a strong day two on the course at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate. The team shot 11-under par on the day (269) and currently sits at 15-under par (545) after two rounds.
"Today was a really good day by the guys," head coach Garett Clegg said. "We got off to a really good start today and rode the momentum all day."
Senior
Mitchell Schow continued to lead the Utes shooting 3-under par (67) for the second day in a row. He currently sits in a tie for 11
th overall with a tournament score of 6-under par (134).
"For Mitchell to have a bogey free round is great," Clegg said. "He was rock solid for our team."
Senior
Jordan Costello rebounded after round one and rose 22 spots to place second on the team after carding 4-under par (66) on the day. Costello is in a tie for 27
th overall with a tournament score of 3-under par (137).
"Jordan had a fantastic finish to his round today," Clegg continued. "He was only one under par with three holes remaining and he eagled his 16
th hole and made one birdie on the 17
th hole to finish strong."
True Freshmen
Jesper von Reedtz made a huge leap in the standings by shooting 4-under on the day (66). He jumped 27 spots on the leaderboard to land in a tie for 30
th through two rounds of play with a score of 2-under par (138) for the tournament.
"Jesper had a great ball striking day," Clegg said. "He hit every fairway and nearly every green and made five birdies."
Juniors
Blake Tomlinson and
Tristan Mandur finished in 41
st (139) and 44
th (140) respectively. Tomlinson carded 1-over par (71) in round two and Mandur shot even par (70) on the day.
At the Mea Lanakila Individual, true freshman
Javier Barcos leads the Utes after shooting 1-over (73) on the day placing him in a tie for 15
th (146) amongst the field. Redshirt freshman
Oscar Maxfield carded 3-over par (75) to finish tied for 17
th overall (148) and sophomore
Axel Einarsson rounds out the Utes carding 5-over par (77) on the course and currently sits in 32
nd place (161).
The Utes will look to carry their momentum with them when the final round tees off tomorrow Sunday, Sept 15
