SAN FRANCISCO – Utah gymnast
Maile O'Keefe was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week on Wednesday after recording season-highs on three events en route of winning the all-around title in Utah's 197.050-194.300 win against Arizona State.
O'Keefe posted a 39.225 in her second appearance as an all-arounder and assisted Utah in recording a season-high team score of 197.050. O'Keefe's efforts on all four events also counted toward Utah's season-high event scores on bars and beam, while matching their season-high floor score.
The Las Vegas native began the conference opener earning a season-high 9.80 on vault and then followed with a season-high 9.775 on bars. Competing as the beam anchor in all three meets this season, O'Keefe hit once again for the Utes and scored a 9.775 to ensure a low score could be dropped from the middle of the lineup. To close out her night, O'Keefe scored a season-high 9.875 on floor to best Arizona State's three all-around competitors for the all-around title.
Along with her first all-around victory, O'Keefe placed in a tie for third overall on floor and fourth on vault. O'Keefe is the first freshman for Utah to see action in the all-around since 2017 when
MyKayla Skinner competed as an all-arounder in every meet and
Missy Reinstadtler did against California.
This is the first Pac-12 Freshman of the Week award for Utah and is Utah's second weekly award winner this season.
Kim Tessen earned Pac-12 Specialist of the Week on Jan. 14.
O'Keefe and the No. 4 Utes compete at No. 21 Arizona this Saturday at 2 p.m. at the McKale Center in Tucson, Ariz.
