SAN FRANCISCO – Utah gymnast
Adrienne Randall was named the Pac-12 Specialist of the Week after winning the beam title with a career-high 9.95 in last week's road win over No. 12 California. Randall also matched a season-high 9.875 on floor to place fifth.
Randall played a crucial role in Utah's efforts to remain the only undefeated team in the Pac-12 this season, while also continuing to be the highest ranked Pac-12 team in the nation. After No. 3 Utah and No. 12 Cal were tied through three rotations, the Ute sophomore's 9.95 on beam contributed to Utah scoring a 49.625, which is the third-best beam score in the nation this season, to win the meet. Utah handed Cal their first home loss of the season and first home loss in nearly two years.Â
With Randall's career-high 9.95 beam performance, she earned a share of the beam title with a pair of Ute teammates for her first event victory of the season. It is her second career beam win and fourth overall career victory.Â
On floor, Randall continued her consistent efforts on the event and added a 9.875 to Utah's floor score of 49.425. Randall has scored a 9.875 on floor in her last three routines and has not scored lower than a 9.85 this season on floor. Counting both of her routines to the team scores against Cal, Randall assisted Utah in scoring a season-high 197.550 final score, a season-high 49.625 beam total, and a season-high 49.425 on floor.Â
This is Randall's first weekly award of the season and second in her career after being named a Pac-12 Freshman of the Week last season. She is the third weekly award winner for the Red Rocks this season.
