SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah ski alpine teams return to collegiate action this weekend at the Utah Invitational, hosted at Park City Mountain Resort from Feb. 22-23 with the Utes also hosting an RMISA slalom qualifier on Feb. 24.
Races begin on Saturday, Feb. 22, with the giant slalom followed by the slalom on Sunday, Feb. 23, both counting for the Utah Invitational. Monday's RMISA slalom qualifier does not count towards any team scoring and is used as an extra opportunity for skiers to earn qualification points for the NCAA Championships at the end of the season. Action will begin each day at approximately 9:15 a.m. Fans can watch from the base of Eagle lift.
The Utes lead the Utah Invitational following the Nordic portion of the meet with 387 points, 70 points ahead of Alaska Anchorage (317) and 104.5 points ahead of third-place Denver (282.5). Utah has been the top overall alpine team in both meets this year, the Denver Invitational and Colorado Invitational, with the Utes the top overall team in the men's alpine races. The Utes have won both meets as a team this season.
The alpine teams last raced collegiately on Jan. 17. Several skiers took a trip to Canada earlier this month to compete in Nor-Am Cup races.
