SAN FRANCISCO – After earning another career-mark on beam in Utah's win against Oregon State, Ute gymnast
Maile O'Keefe was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Coming off a previous season-best 9.95 on beam against California the week prior, O'Keefe rose to the occasion yet again on beam and posted a 9.975 against Oregon State to win her second-straight beam title. The Las Vegas native has posted three consecutive beam routines of 9.90 or higher.
Earning a 10.0 from one judge, O'Keefe was near-perfect throughout the stunning routine that includes an extremely difficult acro-series in her side aerial layout. O'Keefe's 9.975 is the highest beam score by any freshman in the Pac-12 Conference this season. She is ranked the top freshman in the conference with an average score of 9.875 and No. 4 overall in the Pac-12 on beam, while ranking No. 23 in the nation.
O'Keefe contributed to another stellar event team score for Utah where they went on to record a 49.600 on beam, falling just below the incredible season-high 49.625 earned against Cal.
O'Keefe also led off the bars lineup in the third-straight meet for Utah against Oregon State and scored a 9.725.
The weekly award marks O'Keefe's second Pac-12 Freshman of the week selection and is Utah's fourth award this year. Her other award came on Jan. 29.
Kim Tessen was named Pac-12 Specialist of the Week on Jan. 14 and
