HOME TO STAY
In the 15 matches this season, the Utah women's tennis team has competed on their home courts in just five contests. The Utes are undefeated in home action, which includes an upset over then-ranked No. 33 Denver and a rivalry win against BYU. After spending the majority of the season on the road, Utah will stay put and play the next five matches in Salt Lake City over the span of four weeks. The Utes will look to protect their home courts against a lineup that includes four of the five teams currently being ranked in the top-40.
Â
RANKED UTES
Whitney Hekking and
Madison Tattini are holding down the rankings for Utah, and in the most recent doubles poll released by ITA/Oracle on March 3, the Ute duo came in ranked as the No. 12 in the nation. Hekking and Tattini suffered their first loss of the spring season last weekend against Washington's top duo, 6-4. Even though they dropped the match in Seattle, Hekking and Tattini have had a stellar season as a team and hold a 12-1 record to lead the team.
Â
CONSISTENCY IS KEY
The Utah women's tennis team has gotten a nice lift from the consistent play of
Emily Dush and
Anya Lamoreaux. Dush holds a 9-2 record this season, mostly playing on court four. Beginning with a singles win in the match in late January against Central Florida, Dush tallied seven-consecutive wins for the Utes before the streak ended this past weekend in a tight match on court three against her opponent from Washington State. Lamoreaux has posted a 8-1 record for the Utes on the No. 6 court all season. Under pressure, Lamoreaux clinched the matches against a ranked Denver squad and in-state foe BYU.
Â
SCOUTING ARIZONA
The Arizona Wildcats hold a 9-5 overall record and just opened Pac-12 play on the road at Oregon, where the Wildcats dropped the match 4-2. Arizona rode a four-match winning streak before entering conference play. Prior to the match against Utah, the Wildcats will have a doubleheader this Wednesday against BYU in Provo, followed by a match against Weber State in Ogden, Utah to close out the day of play. Arizona is led by Talya Zandberg and Kirsten Prelle who compete in the top singles spots.
Â
SCOUTING #18 ARIZONA STATE
Arizona State holds an 11-5 record in spring play, highlighted by wins over then-ranked No. 9 Vanderbilt and a sweep against then-ranked No. 38 Kentucky. Four of the Sun Devils' five losses have come from teams ranked in the top-20 of the nation. Arizona State posted a 4-0 sweep against Oregon to open Pac-12 play and will visit Colorado before playing the Utes on Sunday. The Sun Devils have three seniors ranked in the ITA/Oracle singles rankings, while also claiming a ranked doubles team. Ilze Hattingh is No. 40 in singles, Sammi Hampton ranks No. 94 and Savannah Slaysman is No. 120. On the doubles side, Hattingh and Tereza Kolarova are ranked No. 46.
