PHOENIX, Ariz. – Utah defensive tackle Leki Fotu was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the fourth round with the 114th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft today.
Fotu is the sixth defensive lineman drafted by the NFL during Kyle Whittingham's tenure as head coach and is the highest drafted Ute defensive lineman since defensive tackle Star Lotulelei went in the first round (14th overall pick) of the 2013 draft.
He is the 10th Ute in school history to be taken by the Cardinals and the first since 1995 when Lance Scott was taken in the fifth round.
Known for his size, strength and quickness, Fotu made a name for himself at Utah, playing in 45 games with 28 starts. He earned All-America honors as a senior in 2019 and was a two-time first-team All-Pac-12 defensive tackle.
He started in 13 games in 2019 as a senior, finishing third on the team with 9.0 tackles for loss with 29 total tackles. One of his more memorable games as a senior came in Utah's win over California in Salt Lake City, earning Pac-12 Defensive Lineman of the Week after finishing with three tackles that included the powerful sack that was heard in the tailgate lots.
During his first-team All-Pac-12 performance as a junior in 2018, he racked up 33 total tackles that included 5.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks. Even coming off the bench as a sophomore in 2017, Fotu proved to be effective, finishing with 22 tackles (3.5 TFL) and a fumble recovery.
