NORMAN, Okla. – Senior
Jordan Costello and sophomore
Axel Einarsson have been named to the 2019-20 Srixon/Cleveland Golf Division I All-America Scholars team, announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
The two Utes were among 614 student-athletes on Division I, II, III, NAIA, and NJCAA program that were named to the distinguished lists, the most since the awards' inception in 1982. It was also the first year that sophomores were eligible for the award.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, the individual must be at least a sophomore, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, and must maintain a cumulative career GPA of 3.20. With the Coronavirus Pandemic, the individual also must have participated in 40-percent of the team's competitive rounds in 2019-20.
This is Costello's second career recognition as a Golf All-America Scholar after earning a spot on the Division I list as a junior. He is also a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic selection with Einarsson earning his first All-Pac-12 Academic honor this past year.
In a pandemic shortened season, Costello wrapped up his career as a Ute averaging 71.8 strokes per round in 2019-20, going for seven rounds of par or better. He shot a season low 66 twice, tying for the team low and program record low this past season.
Einarsson also competed in four events this season, totaling 906 strokes with a 75.5 average. His season-best finish came at the Bandon Dunes Championship, tying for 21
st overall, which included shooting a season low 68 in the second round.
