DALARNA, Sweden – University of Utah golfer Axel Einarsson has been active this summer on and off the course while being back in his home country of Sweden, recently being named the Junior Golfer of the Year for Dalarna.
In 2019, Einarsson was ranked ninth in his age group in Sweden and 45th overall, making him the highest ranked male junior in Dalarna.
This summer, the Ludvika, Sweden, native helped his club team win the Swedish Championship to qualify for the Elite Series. As an individual, Einarsson also placed ninth at the Hagge Open (4-under) and 30th at the Borre Open (2-under), which were both part of the Swedish Golf Tour.
He has competed in 16 events as a Ute, including all 12 as a true freshman in 2018-19. He saw action in four tournaments in 2019-20 before the Coronavirus pandemic ended the season early.
As a sophomore in 2019-20, Einarsson totaled 906 strokes in 12 rounds for a 75.5 average with his season-best finish coming at the Bandon Dunes Championship. He tied for 21st overall (69-68-78) while shooting 2-over for the tournament.
Einarsson has also spent some time away from the course this summer while back in Sweden, volunteering at youth camps in Dalarna.
