SALT LAKE CITY – Utah gymnastÂ
Cristal Isa has been selected to the Utah Public Safety Advisory Committee (PSAC) on campus, assisting the Chief Public Safety Officer to ensure a safe and strong quality of life for the University of Utah community. Joining Isa as the male student-athlete on the committee is football player, R.J. Hubert.
"We are pleased to have
Cristal Isa and R.J. Hubert appointed to the Public Safety Advisory Committee, and extend our thanks to Marlon Lynch for including student-athlete representation on this important committee," said Director of Athletics
Mark Harlan. "R.J. and Cristal will represent their fellow student-athletes and classmates while serving on the PSAC to further enhance the safety and overall quality of life in the community. Our student-athletes have all the necessary leadership qualities to make valuable contributions to the committee and will continue to make everlasting impacts on our campus community."
The PSAC will include faculty, staff and students from a cross-section of academic departments, administrative departments, centers, and associations from the U of U.
Hubert and Isa will be a vital part of the committee, which will focus on the following:
- Assist in educating the U of U community about programs, services and initiatives offered by the Department of Public Safety (DPS)
- Help advise the Chief Safety Officer regarding services and policies desired by the U of U community
- Will assist the DPS to deliver the highest quality comprehensive and integrated safety and security program for all valued members of the U of U community
"I am honored to be a part of the Public Safety Advisory Committee," said Isa. "I wanted to be in this committee because I want everyone to feel safe when they are on campus and help provide insight from a student's perspective. Your time during college should be an enjoyable and fulfilling part of your life. It is important to examine all current processes and continuously work to improve any concerns about safety so everyone in our campus community can get the most out of their experience!"
Isa, a junior for the Red Rocks, earned regular season All-American honors last season on the uneven bars and balance beam. The Henderson, Nev. native finished the 2020 season ranked tied for ninth in the nation on beam and No. 16 on bars. Isa posted 9.95s on beam in three meets along with 9.925s on bars in three outings en route to earning first-team All-Pac-12 honors on both events.

She is pursuing a degree in computer engineering and earned a spot on the Pac-12 Winter Academic Honor Roll last year. In addition to the PSAC, Isa is a member of the UTAH group, Crimson Council, and is the head of the Campus Relations Subcommittee. Isa also has recently joined the Pac-12 Diversity Committee. Â
"Having two student-athletes to be appointed to the U's Public Safety Advisory Committee speaks volumes for our leadership's continued commitment to enhancing campus safety," said head coach
Tom Farden of Isa's selection. "We are thrilled to have Cristal as part of this movement. We believe it is a testament to her personal growth and her profound investment in the university that she represents as a scholar and top gymnast."Â Â
