SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah head men's basketball coach
Craig Smith announced Tuesday that junior forward
Bostyn Holt has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2021-22 season with an ACL injury that occurred at practice prior to the team leaving for Daytona Beach last week.
Â
"The news of losing Bostyn for the remainder of the season is tough," Smith said. "Tough for our team and tough on him. Bostyn had been practicing well and getting better every day as the season has gone on. He's in great hands with our world-class physicians at the University of Utah Hospital and our athletic trainer
Trevor Jameson will get him back and better than ever."
Â
Holt joined the Utes after a successful JUCO career and led Coffeyville Community College to an NJCAA Division I Championship his sophomore year where he averaged 9.6 points and 6.5 rebounds with a .569 shooting clip. The Portland, Ore., native also averaged 11.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in eight playoff games.
Â
Through three games for the Runnin' Utes, Holt has progressively seen his minutes grow. He made his Division I debut in the season-opener against Abilene Christian before scoring his first Division I bucket against Sacramento State – where he posted five points and five rebounds. Against Bethune-Cookman, Holt scored seven points on 2-of-4 shooting with four rebounds and three assists.
