PARK CITY – The Utah ski team raced the slalom on the second day of the RMISA Championship and despite softer conditions had some great performances in Park City. This was the fourth day of racing in the last week at Park City Ski Resort as they have repeatedly been getting snow.
"The resort did an awesome job with all of the snow," head alpine coach
JJ Johnson said. "The conditions were sweet and our team is really skiing well. We had a couple mishaps on some second runs, but they're firing. Most of the team is healthy now and if we can get the girls through the finish line, we're going to be fast."
Bjorn Brudevoll led the way, winning his fourth slalom race of the season with a great second run to seal the victory. Sitting in fourth place after the first run, he posted the fastest second time in the field to win the race.
"I would say I had a pretty bad day yesterday, so I wanted some revenge especially with slalom being my main event," Brudevoll said. "After the first one, I was struggling a little bit with the setup I think and just wasn't as fast as I wanted to be. I knew it was going to be super soft and difficult on the second run and I wasn't too far behind from being able to get the win. My mindset was to give it all and trust my skiing."
Wilhelm Normannseth posted the fastest first run of the afternoon and finished in fourth overall.
Joachim Lien was the third Ute to finish in the top 10 coming in seventh and
Huston Philp was right behind him in 11
th.
With three in the top seven, the Utes led the team scoring with 96 points on the men's side.
On the women's side, Utah was led by Michelle Kervén finishing in sixth.
Sona Moravcikova was the other Ute to earn points on the women's side finishing in 14
th.
The Utes sit in fourth place after the second day with 286 points. They are 34 points back from first with the Nordic team still set to have four races.
The Nordic races for the RMISA Championship will take place next Friday, Feb. 26 and Saturday, Feb. 27 at Soldier Hollow.
For the alpine team, this was the last set of races for them until the NCAA Championship begins March 10.
