SNOWBIRD, Utah – Utah extended its lead in the rankings to 49.5 points at the RMISA Invitational hosted by Westminster in two slalom races at Snowbird on Tuesday, February 9.
The Utes came into the day in first place after a strong first day of slalom races on the women's side. In snowy conditions throughout the day,
Bjorn Brudevoll claimed first in both races with his teammate
Wilhelm Normannseth coming in second in both races.
"Because of the long break, it almost felt like the first races of the season again," Brudevoll said. "We have had a lot of good training days during the break and several of those were on pretty soft conditions. Seeing that both races were kind of rough condition wise, I think the last couple of weeks with training in similar conditions really paid off."
The wins are Brudevoll's second and third wins of the season for the freshman from Norway. It was also Normannseth's highest career finishes.
The other Utes competing were
Joachim Lien, who placed sixth in the first race and fifth in the second race,
Tomas Birkner came in 11
th in the first race,
Huston Philp finished in 35
th in the first race and Gustav Vollo came in 25
th in the second race.
Utah leads Westminster by 49.5 points with the Nordic side ready to compete on February 22-23 at Soldier Hollow.
The alpine team will be back at it racing in the giant slalom at Park City on Thursday and Friday. Those two days of racing will complete the RMISA Invitational at Utah, where the Utes have a commanding 75-point lead over the field thanks to the Nordic team.
