PARK CITY – The Utah women's alpine team raced in two giant slalom races at Park City on Thursday, February 11.
The Utes came in with a big lead thanks to the Nordic team and they held that lead in the RMISA Invitational at Utah now up by 86 points.
Katie Parker led the way in the first race and
Sona Moravcikova stepped up in the second race for Utah.
"It was super fun to race at home," Moravcikova said. "It's always great here. We got a little sun for the second race, and it was just really fun to be back here."
It was snowing during the first race of the day, but Utah had a good showing as Parker got sixth and Moravcikova came in 11
th. Michelle Kerven crossed the line 18
th,
Claire Timmermann came in 21
st and
Katie Vesterstein came in 24
th.
For the afternoon races, the sun came out and it warmed up a little bit.
Moravcikova had one of the fastest second runs in the second race of the day pushing her to a fourth place finish. Timmermann improved to finish in 11
th in the second race, Kerven came in 15
th and Vesterstein in 16
th.
"Our coach set the second race, so it was nice because we were prepared going into it," Moravcikova said. "My mindset was to just ski as fast I can and have fun and that worked out really well."
The fourth place finish is her highest this season.
Tomorrow, the Utah men will get their shot with two giant slalom races in Park City. It will be the final races for the RMISA Invitational at Utah.
