INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – As three of the top gymnasts in the nation, Kara Eaker, Grace McCallum and MyKayla Skinner will continue their pursuit of an Olympic Team berth this Saturday, May 22 at the 2021 GK U.S. Classic. The trio of Red Rocks and World Champions will compete at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.
The U.S. Classic will be split into two sessions on Saturday with the first session beginning at 11 a.m. MT and the second session starting at 5 p.m. MT. Chosen by a random draw, McCallum will compete in the first session, while Eaker and Skinner will see the competition floor in the second session. For the three Red Rocks, the U.S. Classic will serve as another milestone in the Road to Tokyo. Following the competition on Saturday, the two final premier events leading up to the Olympic Team decision for the trio of Utes will be the U.S. Gymnastics Championships (June 3-6) and the Olympic Team Trials (June 24-27).
At the 2019 U.S. Classic, Eaker walked away as the balance beam champion and the fourth-place finisher in the all-around and on floor. Collecting four medals at the 2019 U.S. Classic was McCallum, who received the silver medal on floor, and bronze medal in the all-around and on bars.
After deciding to pursue her Olympic dream at the conclusion of the 2019 Utah gymnastics season, Skinner's return to elite began at the 2019 U.S. Classic in her first elite competition in over three years. Before joining Utah's squad, Skinner was the U.S. Classic silver medalist on vault four years in a row (2013-16). This weekend's meet will be Skinner's competitive debut for the 2021 season.
