SAN FRANCISCO – A pair of Utah gymnasts collected a Pac-12 weekly award this week as
Jaedyn Rucker was named the Pac-12 Specialist of the Week and
Jillian Hoffman earned the Coaches Choice award. The selection for Rucker is her second of the season as a specialist, while Hoffman's honor is her third award this season.
Rucker posted the highest score in the Pac-12 on vault to this point when she recorded a season-high 9.975 against California. The 9.975 on her Yurchenko 1.5 earned her the vault title, which is her second win of the year. Her season high on vault is the second best of her career with the only score better coming at last year's NCAA Championships (9.9875). Rucker also finished tied for third on floor against Cal with a 9.90.
Hoffman was the Coaches Choice recipient for the week after she tallied a career-high 9.90 on her Yurchenko full. The junior from Murrieta, Calif., rotated to floor following a career performance and during warmups she tore her Achilles tendon to end her spectacular comeback season after years of perseverance to return to competition.
Hoffman, who had battled injuries that had held her out of competition her first two years as a Ute, had hit every routine this season and scored above a 9.80 on vault in every meet as the leadoff. She competed three floor routines and recorded scores of 9.975, 9.90, and 9.875 in the leadoff spot. Â
Rucker and Hoffman's selections mark 12 weekly awards for the Red Rocks this season, which includes every Pac-12 Specialist of the Week to this point. Winners have been: Gymnast of the Week:
