FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Due to cold temperatures in Fairbanks, Sunday's 10K classical races as part of the RMISA Invitational and larger Besh Cup have been cancelled. As a result, Utah has been named winner of the RMISA Invitational, which is the final Nordic event before the RMISA Championships later this month.
Temperatures from Birch Hill at race time were measured at -5 degrees Fahrenheit with a "feels like" temperature of -11 degrees Fahrenheit. Under RMISA rules, in the event of a cancelled race, results from the other discipline are doubled to calculate the final results and ensure an even scoring between alpine and Nordic.
With that adjustment, Utah finishes the RMISA Invitational with 707 points, ahead of Colorado by 123 points.
Sunday's classical competition was scheduled to take place on the heels of Saturday's freestyle, which was highlighted by a victory for
Sydney Palmer-Leger, her sixth win of the 2022 collegiate season.
Abby Jarzin (fourth) and
Julia Richter (fifth) added team points in the women's freestyle race, while on the men's side
Samuel Hendry (fourth),
Brian Bushey (fifth) and
Bjørn Riksaasen (sixth) were the top three Utes.
