SAN FRANCISCO – Following a meet-winning beam routine last weekend, Utah gymnast
Maile O'Keefe has been named the Pac-12 Specialist of the Week. The weekly honor from the conference office is the second-straight award for O'Keefe after she was last week's Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week.
O'Keefe proved once again to be one of the top beam workers in the country after she needed to bring in a big score to ensure Utah remained undefeated on the season. Following a perfect score from UCLA on floor that had the crowd roaring, O'Keefe needed a 9.975 to clinch the win as Utah's beam anchor and she handled the pressure and delivered just that. Her 9.975 won her the beam title and secured Utah's 197.750-197.650 win over UCLA.
The Las Vegas native began the meet with a 9.875 on bars to add to a season-high 49.550 from the team, which tied the nation's third-best bars score this season. She also posted a 9.925 on floor to add to the stellar rotation.
O'Keefe is ranked fourth in the nation on beam with a 9.940 season average and with the event win at UCLA, she now has two beam titles this season. She has posted four of five beam scores above the 9.925-mark and has hit 15-15 routines this season.
O'Keefe's selection marks the tenth weekly award for the Red Rocks this season. Winners this season have been: Gymnast of the Week:
Cristal Isa (Jan. 11), O'Keefe (Feb. 1); Specialist of the Week:
Jaedyn Rucker (Jan. 11),
