Utes are in a strong position to earn one of the top-5 team spots that will advance to the NCAA Championships.

NORMAN, Okla. – Round two of the 2022 NCAA Norman Regional is in the books and the Utes dropped a couple of spots on the leaderboard to sit alone in fifth after posting a 292 (+4) on the day. For the tournament, Utah has combined for a score of 572 (-4) and is in a prime position to earn one of the five qualifying spots for the NCAA Championship finals.

"We played really well today but unfortunately Martin had a tough couple of holes and those counted in the team score," head coach Garrett Clegg said. "Ultimately, we are in a great position for tomorrow and the wind is supposed to be up so we expect it to be a challenge!"

The Utah duo of Blake Tomlinson and Javier Barcos led the team with 70 (-2) and 71 (-1), respectively. The Utes started on the back nine today, Tomlinson made the turn at 2-under par but made a bogey on the first hole, the 10th. He made a pair of birdies over the next seven holes before finishing his round with a bogey on the 9th hole. Five shots back of the leader, Tomlinson sits alone in fifth after posting a tournament total of 139 (-5).

Barcos had just one bogey on the card today to record a 1-under par 71 in his second round. He started his round with seven consecutive pars and made his lone bogey on the par four 17th. His two birdies came on the par fives, holes 5 and 8, finishing two under par over his final five holes of the day. Barcos is one behind Tomlinson, tied for sixth place individually with a total score of 140 (-4).

Braxton Watts started the Utes off with a with a wedge shot to 10 feet, and rolled in the putt for the team's first birdie of the day. He struggled a bit in the middle of his round, making two bogeys and a double bogey six on the par four first hole. Watts finished his strong round with his third birdie of the day on the par five 8th hole to shoot 74 (+2), a nice improvement from yesterday's round. Watts moved up the leaderboard three spots to 58th with a total score of 151 (+7).

Tristan Mandur had a tough day on the course. He made five bogeys and zero birdies to shoot a 77 (+5). Mandur bogeyed three of his first seven holes, making the turn at 3-over par 39. He went on to bogey two more holes to record a 2-over 38 on his back nine and drop 23 spots to T-28th with a two round total of 146 (+2).

Martín León started his round steadily with nine consecutive pars. He recorded his first birdie of the day by holing a greenside bunker shot on the difficult par four 1st hole, the 10th. Leon's bogey free round came to an abrupt halt when he made a double bogey on the 4th hole followed by a quadruple bogey on the 5th. He went on to post a 77 (+5) and sits at T-48th with a total score of 150 (+6).

Utah will close out competition tomorrow at the NCAA Norman Regional playing alongside Ole Miss and South Carolina. Utah will start on the 10th as Watts will start the day once again at 7:30 a.m. MT. Tomlinson will be the last Ute going out at 8:14 a.m. MT.
