MIDWAY, Utah – A brand new season gets underway on January 2 for the four-time defending NCAA Champion Utah Ski Team, with the Utes getting set for the Westminster Invitational at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center.
The Basics
Westminster Invitational – Midway, Utah (Soldier Hollow Nordic Center)
- Tuesday, Jan. 2 – 10K Classic interval start – 9 a.m. (women) / Noon (men)
- Thursday, Jan. 4 – Freestyle Sprints – 9 a.m.
RMISA Qualifier – Midway, Utah (Soldier Hollow Nordic Center)
- Sunday, Jan. 7 – Classic Sprints – 9 a.m.
What it Means
Utah's races on January 2 and 4 count on the regular season schedule as part of the Westminster Invitational; in addition both events are being held inside the 2024 U.S. Cross Country Ski Championships. The classic sprints race on January 7 is not part of an RMISA meet, meaning team scores will not be kept but individual results in that event will count toward NCAA qualification.
Though not part of the RMISA schedule, various Utes will also be competing in a freestyle mass start on January 5; this event at Soldier Hollow is part of the U.S. Cross Country Ski Championships.

Welcome to the U
A total of 12 new faces have joined the Utah Ski Team, breaking down to seven on the alpine side and five new Nordic Utes. Among the group is a pair of past NCAA individual champions, as Westminster transfer
Mikkel Solbakken was the 2021 NCAA champion in men's giant slalom, while Nordic's
Joe Davies claimed the men's 10K freestyle gold last season while competing for Alaska Fairbanks.

Rewind on 2023
The Utah Ski Team capped off the 2023 season by making history as the first program to win four straight NCAA Championships in the combined gender era (since 1983). A memorable week in Lake Placid, New York, not only saw the Utes bring home their 16
th team national championship all-time, but also capture four individual titles along the way.
Madison Hoffman stole the show in women's alpine, winning both the slalom and giant slalom crowns. It made Hoffman the first athlete to sweep the women's alpine races at NCAAs since 2019 and first Ute since 1990. On the Nordic side it was a similar theme, as Utah's
Novie McCabe took the top spot both in the freestyle and classic events, highlighting 13 total All-America honors for the team.
It was also a very successful year for the Utes on the RMISA circuit, winning both the regular season and championship meet titles.
Miles Havlick and
JJ Johnson each were named RMISA Nordic and alpine Coach of the Year, respectively.
Next Up
Following the week up at Soldier Hollow, the Utes will have a few days off from competition and return to Soldier Hollow on January 12 and 13 for the Utah Invitational.
The first leg of the alpine schedule runs from January 17-20, with the Utah Olympic Park hosting the alpine parts of both the Westminster Invitational and Utah Invitational.
