KEBA KING EMERGES
Utah sophomore
Keba Keita has had a strong return to the line-up, averaging 13.7 points and 7.0 rebounds in his three games back so far while shooting a white-hot .947 clip (18-for-19). During that 3 game stretch, Keita becomes the first Pac-12 player since Zeke Nnaji (Arizona) to average at least 13.6 points and 7.0 rebounds with a .947 shooting clip.
Through games on Dec. 5, Keita is just 1-of-2 players in the country to average at least 10 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting at least 70-percent from the field off the bench. The other player being Quinnipiac's Rihards Vavers, who is averaging 16.5 points and 7.0 rebounds with a .786 shooting clip. However, Vavers has only played two games this season.
BIG BEN
Making his first start of the season,
Ben Carlson showed up in a big way for the Utes. The 6-9 forward recorded his first-career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds on 6-of-8 shooting with 2 assists and a steal. The 15 points was a new career-high for the Woodbury, Minn., product while his 10 rebounds was just one shy of tying his career-high.

Utah wasn't its sharpest on defense against Southern Utah at home on Tuesday, but career-high nights from
Keba Keita and
Ben Carlson helped the Utes outlast the Thunderbirds 88-86 at home. Utah dominated the post, scoring 56 of its 88 points in the paint. Keita finished with a team-high and career-high 23 points on 11-of-12 shooting with 8 rebounds. Carlson, who made a spot start for the injured
Branden Carlson, also posted career-highs with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Gabe Madsen added 19 points for Utah while
Rollie Worster picked up his fourth-career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 11 assists.
UP NEXT
The Utes will get a week off for finals week before resuming non-conference action as it entertains another in-state team in Utah Valley on Saturday, Dec. 16. Ted Robinson and Matt Muehlebach will call the action between the Runnin' Utes and Wolverines on Pac-12 Networks at 2 p.m. (MT).
LOOKING AHEAD
Utah will close out its non-conference slate with Bellarmine on Wednesday, Dec. 20, inside the Jon M. Huntsman center before taking a short holiday break ahead of starting Pac-12 play at the end of the month to wrap up the 2023 calendar year.
